A Study On Lu Jia And His Xin Yu

Basing on the past study achievements about Lu Jia and Xinyu, the thesis tries to make a comprehensive inquiry into this topic and give a remark on the status and contribute of Lu Jia in academic history and literature history. The thesis consists of six parts:Part 1 introduces Lu Jia's life and his achievements, divides his life into early period, Hangaozu period, Hangaohou period, Hanwendi period and lists his important feats such as being sent on a diplomatic mission to Nanyue, persuading Liu Bang, mediating between the prime minister and the general. Then it summarizes Lu Jia's contribution in the early period of Han Dynasty and the appraise from later ages.Part 2 discusses Lu Jia's works which consists of political essay Xinyu, history prose Chuhanchunqiu, Lu Jia's Art of War, Lu Jia Fu, Lu Jia's prose with persuading meaning. And then the spreading and historic value of Chuhanchunqiu, the characteristics and style of Lu Jia Fu are carefully discussed.Part 3 discusses the recording and spreading of Xinyu in history and the argument on the authenticity about Xinyu in academic history. It then concludes the evidences of the people who regard Xinyu as false and rebut it one by one. Last it deduces the time of Xinyu being finished.Part 4 analyzes the debate in the sphere of learning on the issue to which thought system Xinyu belongs. The paper holds that Xinyu is a new form of Confucianism and expounds Xinyu's main thoughts, e.g. the idea about universe, the view on the first place and upholding the able and virtuous person, then it clarifies the influence on the ruling class of early period of Han Dynasty, the Chinese thought history, and the history of Confucianism.Part 5 discusses the thoughts of literature and art in Xinyu and concludes that it consists of five parts, such as regarding Renyi as the base, advocating pragmaticism, paying same attention to emotion and reason, diversity of aesthetic, and making the past serve the present.Part 6 summarizes the literature characteristics of Lu Jia's prose, e.g. the antithesis style, characteristics of Fu, popular nature and prose theme and orientation of criticizing Qin Dynasty. And appraise its place in the literature history.
