| Pearl Buck (1892-1973) is one of the disputed novelists in the 20th American literature. In China, people have made studies on her from different angles, which is a special contribution to "Studies on Pearl Buck".The thesis author tries to discuss the feminist features as demonstrated in her main works such as East Wind: West Wind, Pavilion of Women and The Good Earth. In these works, she showed concerns over women, especially Chinese women. Apart from writing works and articles on women, she became active in both civil rights and women's rights activities. These social activities embody Pearl Buck's feminist features. In the first chapter, the thesis author analyses some major female and male characters Pearl Buck created and how feminist features are demonstrated. In the second chapter, focusing on Pearl Buck's personal and social life, the thesis author displays how she practices feminism. In the third chapter, the thesis author analyses Pearl Buck's formation of feminism. The conclusion of this thesis brings a brief look into the feminism's development in the United States, even all over the world during the period from Kate Chopin's publication of The Awakening in 1899 to the death of Pearl Buck in 1973. Though it is difficult for feminism to develop, the development of feminist literatures have still achieved a lot. In my opinion, in this surrounding, it will be fruitful to de some studies on Pearl Buck from feminist aspect. |
