| Since 1965, Indonesia government have suppressed Indonesian Chinese from almost all aspects, including politics, economics, and thoughts, etc. The main society denied the origin of their blood lineage, culture and tradition as a group of immigration. It also refused to recognize the history of their naturalization, hence negating the source of their mode of thinking and acting, which had been acquired gradually from long years of naturalization. Indonesian Chinese thereby not only lost the political status of "Metropolitan ethnic group", but also faced a serious challenge to passing on their traditional traits from generation to generation and preventing the split in their tradition and belief. Such terrific stress forced Indonesian Chinese Literature to shoulder the new responsibility to relieve the spiritual crisis.Indonesian Chinese Literature dedicated to entrust a consistency of the imagination to their brilliant history, for the sake of creating a consistent, solid and suitable native origin.They believed that this origin will help their people to relieve the survival compress, and the origin-tracking imagination is the principal approach of Indonesian Chinese Literature adopted mainly to explain the native identity of Indonesia Chinese. It referred not to the behaviors familiar with the cultural-source-tracing, but to the fictional writing style to seek the immigration history and native identity in Metropolitan Indonesia. The origin-tracking imagination shows the status of Chinese in Indonesian Chinese to have a quest for a more relaxed survival space. However, it still had to reflect the culture and tradition inherited from China, in the aim of keeping the cultural continuity in Indonesian Chinese Group. Hence, it strived to blend "Indonesian Chinese" into "native Indonesian", and help Indonesian Chinese obtain both the solid native identity and the recognition as a legal "Metropolitan ethnic group"- Indonesian Chinese originated from China, on the purpose of maintaining a suitable idealistic and historic source of Indonesian Chinese in Metropolitan Indonesia.Under the suppression from all aspects of real world, Indonesian Chinese Literature appeared intense curiosity and anxiety, and a strong aim. It also can be view as a collective writing with more common characteristics than personal ones, caused by a common mission in the field of Indonesian Chinese Literature. |
