The collection of Huajian Ci-poetry is the first collection of literary Ci-poetry in Chinese history. It comprises five hundred Ci-poems, which were written by eighteen writers. The Huajian Ci-poetry reflects the society of Late Tang and Five Dynasties and the mind of those literaries. The purpose of the thesis is to analyse and interpret the Huajian Ci-poetry from the social culture view as well as evaluate objectively basing on the historical materials. The present thesis mainly consists of four parts.The first part discusses the cultural background of the emergence of Huajian Ci-poetry. The culture of Late Tang and Five Dynasties and the culture of XiShu, the aesthetic trend of thought, the influence of Yan poetry on Ci-poetry are three causes of the appearance of Huajian Ci-poetry.The second part analyses the literary form of Huajian Ci-poetry. We think that the literary form of the Huajian Ci-poetry has many special characteristics, which are all judged by music.The third part differentiate the four styles of Huajian Ci-poetry, and discusses the cultural value of those four styles.The fourth part divides the subjects of Huajian Ci-poetry and discusses the cultural significance of each theme.The other part discusses the cultural model of Huajian Ci-poetry and its value.
