A Review On The Theory Of Logic And Logical System

Jin Yue-lin was the logician and philosopher who systematically and thoroughly inquired into the philosophy of logic for the first time in China. One of his theories of philosophy of logic is logic and logical system which is the subject of this dissertation. It consists of four parts.Part one deals with the research subject of logic. Mr Jin believed that logic inquired into the theory of must (the word 'must' is the sign of the so-called 'syllogistic necessity') or the necessary relation between one proposition and another. It is noted that Mr Jin's theory of must is reasonable.Part two discusses his theory of logical system. Jin Yue-lin hold that all the systems indicating necessity were logical systems which belonged to deductive system, but not all deductive systems were such systems denoting necessity, and that the distinction between logical system and deductive system lied in what the research subject of logical system was must itself.Part three is about the scope of logic. Mr Jin thought that the criteria of logic were the law of excluded middle and the law of contradiction. The criteria have their limitations.The last part chiefly comments on Mr Jin's theory of logic and logical system, and identifies its main contributions, limitations and developments.
