The Chinese feudalistic economy and culture reached its highest peak in the Tang Dynasty, which witnessed the shifting of economic center from the Yellow River in the north to the Yangtze River in the south. The Huai-Si Area, sitting between these two great rivers, occupied a unique place during this transferring of economic center. The economic exploitation of Huai-Si Area in the Tang Dynasty is the major topic of this thesis, which may conveniently be divided into of there secessions. In the first section, the historical background of Huai-Si Area before the establishing of Tang Dynasty was briefly related. In the second section, the author put his emphasis on the discussion of various natural conditions and their influence on this area in this period, such as physiographical and features, hydrological conditions, climate, soil and vegetation. The third section of thesis highlights the analysis of those influential social conditions, such as the physiocracy of Tang Dynasty and its land, taxing,famine-relieving policies. The author also expounds in depth the developing level of agriculture, manufacture and commerce in the Huai-Si Area and their place in the whole picture of the Chinese economy in the Tang dynasty. Then the conclusion is obvious: in the Tang dynasty, the economy of the Huai-Si Area had been considerable developed, the roles it had played during the course of the shifting of economic center from the north to the south should not be ignored.
