| This essay holds that, as far as the May-4th period is concerned, the trend of enlightening thoughts is a consistent, generalized and integralizing trend. Viewing from the differences in definition of "enlightenment" between the Chinese and the western ideology, its historical resources,its originating context, and its various manifestations, this essay expounds in the emergence, development, expansion and influence of the May-4th enlightening trend of thoughts, aiming at representing a certain kind of common cultural basis demonstrated in the May~4th literature, as well as the unified pursuit of the authors in their literary creation, which is superficially complicated. |
