The problem of literature education for non-literature major college students in China has not drawn much attention from academic circles and theoreticians. This paper probes into the problem that includes the relation between literature education and Chinese education, present condition analysis, aim, function of literature education for non-literature major college students.This paper holds the view that literature course should be kept independent from the course of Chinese in universities. This is also a basic premise of the following investigation.This paper analyzes the present condition of literature education for non-literature major college students in China. It points out internal and external causes for leaders' neglect and students' reluctance to study College Chinese after research. The internal cause is that the improper locating of self-position leads to problems on textbook compiling and teaching organization. The external cause is the lack of enough theoretical research and concern as well as the objective condition's limit to higher education development. This paper points out whether a course should be included in major teaching plan depends on not only its usefulness but also the degree of its function. It also analyzes the condition of literature activities of college students' after class. It comes to the conclusion that literature has a solid foundation among college students, but a defect exists widespread that they lack theoretical guide and improvement.This paper explains the aim and function of literature education for non-literature major college students on two aspects. First, it cultivates and forms students' humanist spirit through literature education, which promotes education of liberal arts. Second, from the view of narrow sense of quality education, through literature education, it improves students' language ability, gives aesthetic education, and develops students' creating spirit and creating power. This is out of narrow sense of quality education. |
