The present study attempts to deal with the treatment of implicit Chinese conjunctions when translating from Chinese into English as well as the application of relevance theory in this aspect. Both translators and EFL students meet with many situations involving the treatment of implicit conjunctions in Chinese into English translation. Then the key point is how to deal with the problem of implicit conjunctions in Chinese during the translating process so that the translated text is relevant enough. The purpose of this thesis is to observe the ways to deal with the translation of implicit conjunctions in Chinese into English. The initial effort is to intr3duce relevance theory as the framework of the thesis and to observe the essence of translation, paying special attention to a model of the translation process. The significance of cohesion and conjunctions in translation is explained in detail. A comparative study is conducted between Chinese and English conjun\~~i~ns concerning their function in cohesion. Furthermore, an analysis is conducted in terms of relevance theory based on data of Chinese-English translation with implicit conjunctions in Chinese. Finally, the influence of thought on language in translation and the relation between form and meaning are discussed. In conclusion, interptetive resemblance and cognitive environment of the target language reader is considered to be the basic orientation in translation of implicit Chinese conjunctions when translating from Chinese into English.
