Feng Meng-Long抯 揤u Shi Ming Van? 揓ing Shi Tong Van?and 揦ing Shi lleng Van?~vhich are simply nanied as 揝an Van?enjoy the highest prestige in (he 揇irect Quotation?in the Ming Dynasty. It definitely has an immense influence among the Chinese citizens and also on the history of Chinese novels. Although the basic language used in the work is the official language at that phase, the Wu 1)ialect can be found there as well. This reflects the particular form of literature of 揝an Van?and the features of the social background. This thesis starts with the study of the basic language form in 揝an Van?and to figure out the elements of (lie Wu Dialect exists in the work. In order to state and exl)laiii the causes of the elements of the Wu Dialect in the work, it has to work through generalization and analysis with the aids of the characteristics of the social background in the story and the features of 揇irect Quotation? (lie author抯 cognition in his mother-tongue and influence of bilingualism in Central Wu in (lie Ming Dynasty. With which, it provides reliable information of the fortnatiott of the I)asic language form.
