Study On Panyue

Pan Yue is one of the most important representative writers in the Taikang Literature of the Western Jin Dynasty. In many styles including poetry ode, he all made great achievements. Among these he was especially famous for his literature of mourning for the dead. As a man of letters, he told tales and sowed discords, and participated in framing the prince, and was thus abused by the people. The combination of magnificent literary talent and bad character in him is always one of the problems which attractes researchers most. According to concerned historical records and his writings, this essay describes the original appearances of him & his writings in history and points out some of the mistakes that some researchers have made in the inference and judgement of his specific affairs such as marriage, becoming an official, etc. Meanwhile, it packs up different people's opinions of various dynasties on Pan Yue from many poetry stories, ode stories and related writings, and briefly analyses the reasons of these differences.
