What word's motivation refers to the cause and basis used by word pronunciation to express its meaning. And also is one of the words' contents, it shows the connect ion with morphology and meaning. Telescopic words are produced through the combination of two or more morphemes and how they form by synthesizing the morphemes' sound and meaning is their motivation. This essaymainly studiesthefollowingthreeaspects: 1.Stress the importance of the study on telescopic word's motivation. 2.Classify telescopic words and offer an initial outline of their basis motivation. 3. Search the ways on how to analyze the motivation of telescopicwords intermofspecificwords, which is the key point of this paper.Only when telescopic words are clearly uncovered on the side of their covertly motivational source, can they be concisely understood. Therefore to study the motivation of words is greatly helpful for learning, exerting and researching languages.Since telescopic words are firm and conventional in structure and meaning and they are basis on how morphemes form words, their motivations may be divided into the following kind: combination, synthesis, indication, syntax, rhetoric, allusion. The former four are overt motivations and the later two coverts.Concerning to the study on telescopic words' motivation, the writer of this essay tries to present four arguments about it according to personal experience. First, sources must stood from the initial meaning and original form of word itself, for the sound- and-meaning-combined motivation existed only at the beginning period when semiotics was used. The variation of a word includes both its written and spoken forms. Word is analyzed to find its motivation that comes from its originality. This is done not only by studying the variants of phonetic loan character and Tian Pang (adding an affix on a Chinese character), but also by searching its sound variants.2Secondly, the meaning of morphemes in telescopic words remain out-dated or vernacular meaning, sometimes even sounds of foreign languages. This may cause confusion for they are not usually read. Thus the nature of every morpheme needs to be specifically learns. Thirdlythe logical connectionshouldbepaidattentiontobenothing but only a "meaning fulcrum" that is used to indicate how words come. There are much more connotations that are needed to be revealed and supplemented according to the logic between words and morphemes as well as morphemes themselves. Fourthly, it should be linked with peoples, history and cultural background. Different nations possess different ways of life and thinking. This leads to various characteristics of motivations that are formed by the combination of sound and meaning. In addition, two more points need to be mentioned in the study oftelescopicwords' motivation. One isnottobemisledbythe"false lexical source". Sometimes a few words are of without reason. In this paper, part of the telescopic words' motivations that are collected by the author have been adopted . The rest will be put into the appendix for reference.
