A Study Of Liang Shuming's Cultural Perpective

This dissertation is under the direction of Prof. Mao Yipeng and the title of the dissertation is created by myself according to the tutor's modern philosophy research background and my own interesting. The cultural viewpoint of Liang Shuming can be divided into three parts: Eastern and Western Culture Theory, Chinese Social Cultural Structure Theory and Country Construction Theory. This paper tries to make a whole illustration about his cultural viewpoint from the two aspects which are mentioned below.Three Parts of Liang Shuming's Cultural Viewpoint. The Eastern and Western Culture Theory, which is expressed at all his researches on Chinese social problems and structure, is the basis of his thought and the theoretical support of this paper. Liang's Chinese social structure theory is not only the analysis of Chinese culture and history, but also obtains his imagination on the Chinese future society. And the Country Construction Theory reflects this.The three parts implicate his imagination on the reform of Chinese society and the future construction. Meawhile, the theory and practice of country construction are the actulizations of his imagine society.Liang Shuming's Breakthrough Point and Methods of Chinese Culture Research. Liang Shuming always researched Chinese and western culture and society from two perspectives: the meaning of cultural ontology and the cultural reflection in history. On one side, from the ontological perspective, Liang Shuming is a moral idealist. This is reflected in his life experiences, academic activies and imagination on the construction of Chinese future society. On the other side, as a scholar, Liang Shuming is sagacious. His analyses on the key point of Chinese problems, the comparation of Chinese and western culture and society are profundable and original. But, because of his moral idealism, his solutions mess the differences between ontology of culture and culture in history. However, at all events, Liang Shuming's societal structure thought enlightens today's research on Chinese societal problems.This paper concludes three points after researching Liang Shuming's cultural viewpoint. First, Liang's thoughts are great and original not only because he created the culture comparation philosophy and culture comparation model based on"Three Ways of Culture"theory, but also his closed focus on the important theme--"Where China should go"and consideration about human's future. So making a research on Liang Shuming's cultural viewpoint can let the public find a feeling satisfaction from confucian ethic, and can add an inner sustenance to the demoralized contemporary society and the modern human who become more and more distant in emotional communication. Second, through the laborious study on the comparation of eastern and western culture for decades, Liang Shuming did not copy the modern models of foreign culture, and insisted that Chinese culture should develop its own way. All of these are meaningful for the construction of modern culture of Chinese-style Socialism. Third, facing the conflict of traditional and western culture, Liang Shuming took the path of confucianism, insisted confucian ethic as the basis, absorbed the excellent scienfic and democatic achievements made by western culture in order to gain a thorough understanding of them and make a new path of traditional culture. On the whole, Liang Shuming's achievements are significantly to enrich and inherit the great Chinese traditional culture.Whereas my accomplishments on philosophy are not enough, unavoidably, some parts of this paper are subjective assume. I hope that my dear teachers and friends point out mistakes so that they can be corrected.
