In recent years, public health emergency events happen frequently in the whole world, as well as in China, such as SARS, Sudan red event, mad cow disease, bird flu, especially the H1N1 flu. Swine flu began in America and Mexico in the early spring of 2009, it brings great damage to people physically and spiritually, even up till now, its influence still exists. Various mass media report the H1N1 flu timely and clearly, among which newspaper is a common and major one to report the epidemic situation. However, the studies on news report of public health emergency are very limited. The former researchers mainly study the reporting approaches of it, and seldom study it from the stylistic perspective. Randomly taking plenty of articles on H1N1 from China Daily as the data, this thesis makes a stylistic analysis on it through the approaches of general stylistics. From the aspects of graphological features, lexical features, syntactic features and semantic features, the thesis summarizes the stylistic features of English news report of public health emergency. After analyzing the samples, the writer finds out that the stylistic features of English news report of public health emergency mainly lie in four aspects. Firstly, various pictures and punctuations visually impact the readers. Secondly, the news report prefers the short, simple and vivid words, and also employs numbers and medical terms to stress the severity of the problem. Thirdly, the employment of tense and the sentence pattern is flexible, and also the passive voice is frequently used. At last, various cohesive devices and the inverted pyramid form are employed to precisely convey the information of the incident to the readers. This thesis enlarges the research scope of news report, and deepens the people's recognition on news report and promotes the people's studies on such style. So, the writer hopes it will be helpful for the learning of English learners and the relative studies of researchers.
