English newspaper as well as television, network, radio and other media is very important for studying English and obtaining English information for the researchers. In today’s world, among the English publications issued by the western countries, Washington Post is one of the world-influenced high quality papers issued in America, with good credibility and authority for a long time. And in non-English speaking countries like China, China Daily is a globally praised newspaper by the audience as the most important English media in China. It is the only effective English newspaper written by Chinese writers entering into the western mainstream society. Therefore, the English news reports selected from the two newspapers show strong representativeness.At present, journalistic English is suitable for the news reports of the press, radio, television, network and so on. It is one of practical styles in modern English with the distinctive language form and stylistic features and is also one of the criteria for Standard English. In addition, it has separated from the common English gradually and becomes a special kind of language material deserved further research. In our country, the study of journalistic English is still in its infant stage, but more and more experts and scholars have realized that journalistic English is a discipline with a broad prospect, and it will play a more and more important role in English language study and teaching, meanwhile, it is also a useful key for learners to grasp modern English.This thesis tries to use the relevant theories in English stylistics and linguistics with the aid of statistical analysis to focus on the analysis of comparing the stylistic features of the news event APEC, 2014 in China, including graphology, vocabulary, syntax and discourse levels. Through analyzing the differences, the thesis attempts to dig the root causes of them, to help the non-English learners and the researchers such as those of Chinese learn and grasp the meaning of the English news reports thoroughly, and then to improve their reading efficiency and quality. Meanwhile, through the targeted research on the language data of news English, the author hopes this thesis can contribute to expanding the scope of stylistic study of the English news.
