Bing Xin, a well-known woman writer in the history of modern Chinese literature, started writing during the May 4th Movement and the 1920's, when her creations established her fame as a writer in the history of Chinese literature. Her works underwent changes in theme and idea from the late 30s to the middle 40s of the last century like other writers as they all experienced the baptism of the war. Her maturity of being a man and a writer came in the 1940s and there were some distinct characteristics in her writing: Firstly, she continued her consciousness of the"problem novel". Showing deep concern with human hardship in the real world and pondering on the sufferings of ordinary people against the background of the war; Secondly, she went on with the images of mother, but put more emphasis on the persevering merit of mother which the Chinese nations lacked during the Anti-Japanese War and which were different from her earlier themes of pure motherly love. Bing Xin took up writing again in 1939, and the works of this period more reflected a profound life experiences, a higher artistic value and a broader artistic realm during the stage of maturity. The contemplation of these questions constitutes the basic thought and the starting point of this paper, and the author attempts to solve these question in three parts:Part one sets out to discover Bing Xin's development and maturity as a man and as a writer beginning with her writing trajectory from the 1920's to the 1940's; it also reveals her new initiation point and insight during this transition period of creation.In Part Two, the author attempts to show some perspectives on women presented by her prose Of Women in the 1940s, as motherly love occupies a significant part in all her works; furthermore, this part also analyzes the evolution of the mother image, its rich epochal connotation and the progress and contradiction in her ideas of women as represented by her other women images.Part Three aims to analyze her maturity and insight in writing, which further gives recognition to her maturity in being a man and a writer in the light of some of her representative proses, and to analyze the changes and limitations in her views on love and marriage in her novel Empty House together with some related books about her. Finally, this part provides an analysis and evaluation of her writing during her stay in Japan after the Anti-Japanese War, clarifies some related facts and relates to her states of mind as an intellectual as well as the influence of cultural tradition on her being a man and a writer.
