The application of postcolonial theory in translation, which is promoted by the cultural turn, opens up a new research field for translation studies. Traditional translation theory believes that translation is a kind of equal communication between ST culture and TT culture. According to the postcolonial theory, the political and economic inequality between different countries and nations will inevitably lead to cultural inequality, and the power differentials between strong culture and weak culture make it impossible to translate under the premise of cultural equality. This thesis will reconsider translation strategies from the postcolonial perspective, and provide a new method for solving the debate over the dichotomy of translation strategies.Chapter 1 is introduction, which introduces the purpose and significance of the thesis, and then makes a brief description of the history and present of translation strategies. Chapter 2 is about postcolonial theory and its application in translation studies. The first part introduces postcolonial theory in aspects of the meaning, research field and representative figures and their respective theories; the second part proceeds to elaborate on the formation and main content of postcolonial translation theory. Chapter 3 gives an overview of translation strategies. After reviewing the development of translation strategies, it discusses the origin of domesticating translation and foreignizing translation and their main points of view. Based on the former two chapters, Chapter 4 studies domestication and foreignization from the postcolonial perspective, pointing out that hybrid strategy is an effective way to solve the debate over the two strategies. Furthermore, it analyses the hybrid nature of translated texts by some specific examples. Chapter 5 is a conclusion of the thesis.
