As a major component in the implementation of an English course, college English textbook is regarded as an essential factor contributing to the accomplishment of teaching content and the achievement of teaching objectives, and it has been revised again and again with the reform of foreign language teaching. Today college English has stepped into a post four-level stage, a variety of textbooks are compiled and published in the market. However, with the development of higher education and teaching reform, most present textbooks in the market, to some extent, can not keep in accordance with the principles of College English Curriculum Requirements (CECR), and have some problems in promoting the development of individualized requirement and the autonomous learning ability.CECR issued in the year of 2007 calls for the new requirements of college English reading textbook in non-English majors. In order to meet the specific needs of individualized teaching and keep up with the reform of college English teaching, this paper does a research on the design of college English reading textbook that meet the needs of students in different specialties, meet the needs of students with different levels, and have the function of autonomous learning on the computer.This paper mainly focuses on the research of college English reading textbook design. This research is based on the theory of cognitive linguistics. Basically, it is a quantitative study followed by a qualitative study. It endeavors to solve the following research problems:1. How to reflect individualization and meet the needs of students with different star points in textbook design;2. How to meet the needs of students'development in different specialties and improve the English proficiency in the area of specialty in textbook design; 3. How to take full use of computer technology, and to have a function of self-learning, self-testing, self-evolution and convenient search in textbook design.On the bases of cognitive linguistic theory including cognitive categorization, schema theory and comprehension input and output theory, and in accordance with CECR (2007), this paper tries to design a trine model of college English reading textbook with paper book, electronic book and network platform. In concrete design, the author builds three big reading databases, that is, the database of Science and Technology, the database of Liberate Art, and the database of Agriculture and Forestry (Medical), and then presents concrete designing plans for each database.The significance of this paper is to have preliminary research on the individualized design of college English reading textbook according to CECR (2007) from perspective of cognitive linguistic theory. This research provides cognitive theoretical bases for college English textbook construction and also proposes some practical designing plans for further recommendation. It is urgent for foreign language teaching and learning to construct a new framework with Chinese characteristics which is more scientific and practical for college English textbook compiling. The author hopes to draw attention to the textbook compilers, and hopes the discussion in this paper would throw some insights into the further study of textbook construction and foreign language teaching reform.
