Research On The Negative Images Of Lu Xun's Essays

Lu Xun created 16 books of essays in his life, such as Hot Wind, Tomb, The Collection of Canopy and so on. The essays not only recorded the development process of Lu Xun's idea, but also reflected the development course of social history about close modern China and the history of ideological struggles, which is a volume encyclopedia of modern China and"the history of modern Chinese people", having great thought values and appreciation values. The purpose of Lu Xun's essays was to"criticize civilization"and"criticize the society", which was manifested through a large number of images in the way of artistic creation. These images were shown through some sorts of figures, animals, things, social phenomena, behavior and other negative images. The negative images of Lu Xun's essays have a profound cultural connotations. However, the researchers only have taken notice of the artistic features of Lu Xun's essays for decades and the essays imagery, one of the aesthetic features has got short shrift. For Lu Xun's essays with diverse and complex images, the study of images is in a much weaker link. Compared with the importance of Mr. Lu Xun's essays, it is regret. Therefore, the study of Lu Xun's essays imagery still has a great opening. This paper is trying to use a variety of comprehensively critical methods to analyze the images of Lu Xun's essays, compensating for this deficiency in academia. However, limited by my own cultivation, available data and other objective and subjective factors, I only make research on the negativity of Lu Xun's essays, studying the negative images, the way that Mr. Lu Xun set, understanding the purpose on social criticism and civilization criticism and hoping that the academic study of Lu Xun's essays have inspirations to the academia.There're three parts for the total paper. Besides, there's the introduction part and conclusion one. The first chapter of the paper is to mainly define the origins of the concept, and sort out some images in Lu Xun'essays. In the second part, the negative images of Mr. Lu Xun's essays are divided into four categories. On the basis of classification, the negative images of each group are analyzed according to critical implications of the negative images. From these images we captured the representative negative ones to explain and analyzed their symbolic meanings, such as the "kitchen" images, "onlookers" images, "dog" imagery, "push", "kick" and so on, discussing emphatically the way that Mr. Lu Xun use them to achieve the purpose of social criticism and civil criticism. The third part is to analyze the aesthetic features of negative images in Lu Xun's essays. There're five characteristics, namely, vivid painting nature, symbolic metaphor, emotional bias, intertextuality and unique rebellion. At the same time, a brief analysis of the formation mechanism is given.Take the image theme as a breakthrough, we find the new angles to read Lu Xun's essays by understanding the settings of images from the aspects of sociology and literature. By combing and interpreting the main images of Lu Xun's essays, we grasp the implications of Lu Xun's essay imagery, the sense of history and modern awareness infiltrated in them, the concerns to the society and life, the tragic feelings to the tragedy of the nation, the country, and even the human suffering as well as the optimism that"Do what one knows is impossible"conveyed and the persistence to the dedication of life, thus we can sense the deep thinking of Lu Xun's essays. What's more, we can glimpse the charming and eternal individuality and personality of Lu Xun ideas as an individual and a giant thinker. By analyzing the aesthetic characteristics of the negative images in Lu Xun's essays, we have a new awareness and understanding to the unique thought, the spiritual world and the art world about Lu Xun and try to grasp and reveal the characteristics of poetry essays. Take the negative imagery of Lu Xun's essays as a research view and interpret the new connotations, creative methods and value from the aspect of imagery, we grasp the purpose of Lu Xun's essays and open another window for understanding Lu Xun's essays more comprehensively, namely, the "civilized criticism" and "social criticism". Finally, this method may provide a model and sample to study the works of other modern writers and can discuss the world of aesthetic values, cultural implications of Lu Xun's essays as well as its impact on contemporary literature.
