New Criticism Aesthetic Criticism

The New Criticism is an important trend emerging in the turning point of Literary Criticism. It is based on the examination and criticism to the previous Literary Criticism. New Critics treat a work of literature as if it were self contained and independent of both author and reader. The literary work itself is the origin and purpose of artistic activities. As a result, Aesthetics should put emphasis on the work itself.In order to prove the unique Aesthetic value of literary work itself, New Critics focus on the text and create a series of Aesthetic Criticism Theory with a strong operability. The theory has two levels, the first of which is the basic principle of criticism, that is, reading in detail. The second is the perspective breakthrough point. New Critics think that we should criticize the literary work from the art of the language. Based on this, they brought forward the theory of "semantic analysis" and "context ". They also proposed that we should read the literary works from different perspectives realize reading in details by concrete steps and hunt for the beauty of the art of language.Although New Criticism is criticized for its marginal niche due to its limit in formalism, it has made great contributions with its principle which takes literary works as noumenon reality and its Aesthetic Criticism theory which explains meaning in text. We should succeed and further spread this theory as a kind of formalism Criticism, which is a heritage to us .
