Robert Frost is one of the most outstanding poet in the 20th century's American literature. His poetry is characterized by inherently profound meaning, with clear and natural descriptions explicitly, which becomes all the more popular among both readers and scholars. The thesis aims at exploring in Frost's poetry the relationships between nature and human beings, as well as between human beings themselves from the emerging perspective of eco-criticism.Nature and human beings are the two major themes in Frost's poetry. Nature is mainly performed in Frost's poetry by three levels, sensible beauty of nature, symbolic glamour of nature and supreme system of nature. In a broad sense, we may see in his poetry Frost shows us a picturesque New England landscape and almost every natural image can be identified with a symbolized color, from which our readers have much to learn. What's more important, supreme nature embodied in his poems will be of great significance, which reflects Frost's unprecedented eco-critic view on nature.Farmer, labor, and traveler are the three typical human images in Frost's poetry. The innocent and satisfied farmer is contrasted against the poor and annoyed labor in the urban area, thus the traveler, who is predominantly the embodiment of Frost himself in the poetry, comes to the diverging road—to be a satisfied farmer or choose a poor modern life, that is the question.Nature and human beings are closely interacted in Frost's poetry. The interior nature-human relationships are to be delved into by the context of eco-holism. And the thesis finds in Frost's poetry that nature is the source of human values and wisdom, and man can always get inspirations and enlightenment from nature. Moreover, man lives a happy life by sharing harmonious coexistence with nature and people in the surroundings. The conclusion puts that Frost's poetry is imbued with eco-holism. Nature is put in a very high position in his poetry. He highly appreciates pastoral life; however, Frost's ultimate solicitude lies in the modern society. He attempts to introspect through an unprecedented eco-holism view—learning from nature, sharing harmonious coexistence with nature, and with other people in modern society, in a bid to provide conducive suggestions for the sustainable development of modern society.
