Since the implementation of reform and opening-up policy, China's international status isincreasingly improved, and its cooperation with other countries in the major areas has beenincreasing continuously, China is now playing an increasing role and influence in Asia and even inthe world. Meanwhile its political status and economic influence are also increasing. However,economic progress, the improving living standards and the unprecedented leap of education keepthe legal awareness of our citizens continuously growing. Today more and more people begin topick up an effective legal weapon to protect their legitimate rights and interests. The complexity ofinternational dimension is also true, the law is the yardstick of international relations, the rightlegal sense and legal consensus for a better knowledge is the key aspect to settle the internationaldisputes and differences. To let Chinese people have a voice in the law, we must have better legalsystem, which at the same time is the good weapon to protect the development of economic andtrade.Legal document is a kind of special official documents which has a special formation andsyntactic features of words and strong practicality. It is the carrier and an important way for us tounderstand the law. Since the specificity of legal language, if we want correctly understand andconvey the significance of translation of the legal documents, it is necessary for us to understandthe language of legal documents, so in the final analysis, translation of the legal documents notonly require us to master a wealth of legal knowledge, but also through the research on the speciallanguage of legal documents and legal Syntax, we must go deep into the understanding andapplication of cross-language translation of the legal documents.Syntax is not a new term in the long linguistics study, and the syntactic relations is the corecontent in in the syntax study. Since the complexity and flexibility of the relationship between thesyntactic structure, and their syntactic features between English and Chinese language, it is verysignificant to do the research the legal documents translation through the contrast between Englishand Chinese with the syntactic features of legal language, we say that it is directly related to theaccuracy of conveying the target language and the effectiveness legal documents translation.This paper the author intents to give the research on legal documents translation from theperspective of the syntactic relations, not only points out the theoretical and practical importance of the syntactic relations during the process of studying the legal documents translation, citing theresearch of famous domestic and foreign linguists such as Hu Zhuanglin, Chomsky, Broomfield,John Lyons, R.H Robins etc on syntactic relationship between, the classification of syntacticrelations, pointed out the applicability of English legal language syntax; meanwhile we set anexample of the English translation of"Contract Law of the People's Republic of China", throughthe syntactic relationship analysis of the image instances of Chinese-English translation in legaldocuments. Then this paper further summarizes the syntactic relations characteristics of theChinese and English language and put forward the matters need attention and the translationstrategies during the process of Chinese-English legal documents translation. In this thesis, whenthe author expounds syntactic relationship theory which is used in the process of legal documentstranslation, also raises the important factors which influence the Chinese and English syntax, suchas the Eastern and Western cultural differences, writing habits and the style of legal documents,and at the same time, analyzing when we deal with the relationship between the Chinese andEnglish syntax, the handling of punctuation marks can not be discounted and the correspondingtranslation conversion and strategies.
