Abstract/Summary:
In recent years, to emphasize the importance of handwriting teaching, the national Ministry of Education has issued documents which advocate students' right posture and habits of writing. Correct, proper and tidy writing would be required. In addition, teachers are demanded to direct students to write with proper speed. As one of teaching demands of the compulsory education, handwriting teaching is supposed to be taught to middle and primary schools in our country. At the beginning of the new century, the 8th Curriculum Reform has been practiced in an all-around way under the leadership of CPCC and the State Council. What influences will the reform bring to the calligraphy teaching in primary schools? And as the reform goes on, how will the primary schools implement these policies? With these questions, the author of this paper investigates the calligraphy teaching in Lianshi Primary School in Nanxun District of Huzhou City, Zhe Jiang Province. The investigation intends to provide the research resources to know how the new curriculum reform affects calligraphy teaching in primary schools, and to introduce it as a model for the calligraphy education. Also, it plans to provide basic materials for the fundamental calligraphy teaching reform. This paper can be divided into 5 parts as follows:The first part makes a brief introduction to the new curriculum reform and the calligraphy education in Shilian Primary School. It also gives a relevant definition connected with calligraphy teaching and introduces the current situation of calligraphy teaching in primary schools.The second part investigates and analyzes how the calligraphy curriculums are arranged in Shilian Primary School from the following areas:drafting the calligraphy curriculum, establishing the new curriculums implementation and editing the textbooks.From the aspects of ideas, implementation and assessment of the new curriculum education, the third part investigates and analyzes the issues of implementation there.The fourth part concerns what effects the calligraphy education has been broughtto the students,teachers,schools and the society. The fifth part involves the influences of reforming the calligraphy teaching in primary schools after the self-examination, and it subsequently analyzes the situation in this individual case. It also proposes some measures to implement the ideas of the new curriculum into the calligraphy teaching.
