The history of Chinese Language for Foreigners is not long in our country, and many aspects need to be improved. In accordance with the common points of languages, we can get some edifications, such as teaching theories and teaching methods, from foreign language teaching to improve Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. In this research, I introduce some controversial survey results of the relation between the type of temperament and foreign language learning performance. I carried out questionnaires to 529 middle school students at grade 2 and studied the relation between temperament and foreign language learning performance. I found that the melancholic type was in favor of foreign language learning and sanguine-melancholic type was not conducive to foreign language learning. Other temperament types did not show notable relation to foreign language learning performance.The results verified my experience from teaching practice:The students with melancholic type are more serious, careful and persistent. These features are praised by teachers in foreign language learning. The melancholic type was fit for the style of foreign language teaching in middle school; Although the students with sanguine type are flexible and talktive, they did not show any advantages in foreign language learning. We can conclud that temperament types have effect on foreign language learning. If a teacher knows students' temperament characteristics well, he can carry out teaching better. In teaching Chinese as a foreign language we should:1. Avoid prejudice of temperament when appraising students.2. Use appropriate teaching methods to fit students with different types of temperament. 3. Pay attention to weak points in all types of temperament.4. Grasp learning characteristic of learners with different type of temperament and predict their behaviors.5. According to characteristic of different type of temperament, use effective error analysis and correction strategy.6.
