| This paper introduced the concept of "nation", "folklore" and "folk", making clear the relationship of "folklore art" and "folklore style painting", and establishing the theoretical basis of the full discusses. Through the difference between folklore style painting and folk art, folklore style painting and traditional Chinese painting, folklore style painting and traditional custom painting, it made us know what is " folklore style painting" clearly, and also expounded its characteristics and contents in detail. This article discussed Chinese artist's interest of folklore style painting and the source of creative motivation in their works from three aspects of aesthetic, emotional needs, cultural heritage. After, this paper researched the folklore style paintings in a small range. These paintings take material from many different themes, such as folk art, regional features, folklore item and so on. These examples not only further confirmed that folklore is the subject which Chinese artists pay attention to, but also discussed various problems of folklore style painting in the process of folkloric. Enter the key section of this paper, the paper discussed the criticizing and reflection of the phenomenon that some paintings only have elements of folklore, without spirit below this surface in Chinese art creation, and tried to illuminate the value and meaning of the folkloric oil painting.This paper also attacked the "false folklore" phenomenon that some people want to walk on art shortcut, and they choose a wrong creation atmosphere to seeking their self-interest, ignoring the traditional cultural spirit. Meanwhile, facing the rapid development, the changing of Chinese society, this article is looking forward to the prospects and development of traditional folklore style painting in the context of urbanization. By using the dynamic development of active light on folk, with the synchronous attention of local folk and urban folklore, contemporary folklore style painting are able to develop healthy and further.
