The Comparison Of The Quantifiers In Artistic Style And Scientific Style

This thesis primarily refers to the research productions of quantifiers in linguistics at home and abroad and applies the stylistic rhetoric theories. It adopts the methods of quantitative research and qualitative research, surveys the differences of construction with the basic in the scientific style and artistic style, then explains the differences in terms of the style.On the basis of specific statistical data, after comparison, analysis, we found the uses of quantifiers in the style of art and scientific style, there are the following differences:It is more extensive that the artistic style uses the quantifiers, the scientific style uses the quantifiers to be relatively centralized; on the use of the borrowing quantifier,the artistic style far exceeds the scientific style. Quantifier overlap's frequency (including number combination overlapping) appears in the style of art far higher than in the style of science.As for the quantifiers affix, the frequency in the artistic style is more than in the scientific style; the distribution of different affixes in two kinds of styles is extremely uneven. The frequency that the suffix of quantifier appears in the artistic style is far greater than in the scientific style, yet the prefix is almost the same. On the rhetoric respect of quantifier, the artistic style use the positive rhetoric of the quantifier in a large amount, while the scientific style hardly uses the positive rhetoric of the quantifier, but more passive rhetoric. The quantifier has obvious difference of style, which is not only related to function characteristic of quantifier, but also the different rhetoric of the artistic style and scientific style.
