Susan Sontag is a prominent writer in American history of literature and criticism upon the half of 20th century. Compared with the studies about her in the West, the research of Susar Sontag in China has just become flourishing since her death. It can be said that the academic studies on Susan Sontag in China are still in the infant stage, especially on her fictions. From the perspective of the travel in Susan Sontage's fictions with application of closed reading methoc and general study method, the dissertation discussed the theme of self-searching in her fictions This dissertation contains five chapters. Chapter one summarizes the academic studies of Susar Sontag at home and aboard, states that Sontag can not be ignored as a novelist, and especially documents the necessity of taking a fresh look at Sontag's fictions as a whole. Based on the analysis in the text, chapter two indicates that there are two meanings of the travel in Sontag's novel:space and metaphor, and this chapter focus on the rapport of the key words on spiritua journey and self-exploration. Chapter three explores how to construct self by analyzing the narritate sound in Sontag's text. Chapter four investigates the male and female groups in Sontag's text and explores the change of Sontag's self concept, through combing her text with her writing career. Chapter five is conclusions of the dissertation.
