It became an international commercial city in the 1930s, addressed as Oriental Paris. In this era of modernization and commercialization, the prominent calendar pictures became one amazingly beautiful flower in the commercial art history of both China and the world.Female image is one important topic in calendar pictures, and the liberation of female is an important theme in the modernization of China. Selecting the female images in calendar pictures from 1900-1949, this paper combines image analysis and historical analysis, case study and theory reasoning, and discusses the problem of female physical liberation. It seeks to analyze the implied aesthetic mind of these pictures, and tells the phenomenon of the individual awakening in people's daily life.As something that witnesses and reports the modern life of the first half of the 20th century, the calendar pictures have demonstrated the independent ladies'charm. Through the constantly changing female images, we know the changes of ladies' clothes. The females in calendar pictures tell us that why people prefer healthy body at that time. They have declared the collapse of traditional behaviors through their casual postures. The females, who have obtained the right of education, the manipulation of body and economical independence finally enlarge their public activity space. They also enlarge the space in cognitive and political areas, as well as their space of connection between two genders. Women have been repositioned in the country, the society as well as their families. Such liberation should be attributed to the awakening of individual. Along with the disintegration of the agricultural society and the maturity of commercial culture, people got rid of the traditional families and became separate individuals. Their individual values have been re-examined. Consumption and enjoyment have been regarded as individual freedom, and all sorts of desires of human beings have been legalized.
