Exploring The Articles About Bawdry Enterprise Of Macao In The Qing Dynasty

This paper mainly clarifies some measures of registration, taxation, housing range and health in bawdry through studying bawdry articles released by Macanese authorities in 1851,1873,1887,1898 and 1905. Through the researches on these articles, this paper shows legalized process of bawdry business and the social life condition of prostitutes during different periods in Macao under the background of the major change of the political and economy in Qing dynasty. The results indicate that the Macau growing prosperity of prostitution in Qing dynasty is led by the particular social, political, and economic reasons, and it has the far-reaching influences on the development of economy in Macao.
