On Evolution Of Chinese Independent Docume Ntary Since The 2000s

From 1989 to 2000, Chinese independent documentary came to a deadlock of surviving after experience a period of thriving and prosperous. With its accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) on December 11,2001, China became one of the last major trading nations to join that organization, which has brought much influence on china's film industry and movie business. Ever since then, the industry started to open up to public corporations and permitted foreign capital to invest in projects. The Chinese-foreign co-production takes foreign funds and the international experience to Chinese film producers. Under the influence of many factors, Chinese independent documentary have made changes in production and artistic creation.In order to research the development of Chinese independent documentary, this paper firstly focuses on the collection and analysis of the essence of Chinese independent documentary from 1990 to 2000, then forms the definition of the concept of "Chinese independent documentary" and proposes a hypothesis. Secondly, by analyzing the cultural backgrounds of the society, the paper shows the difference of Chinese political and cultural content between ten years. At the forth and the last part of the thesis, it concludes the changes of Chinese independent documentary on the unique production mechanism and the feature of independent spirit.Finally, based on the study of this dissertation, a conclusion can be drawn that facing the impacts of the waves of commerce, independent producers are actively exploring a better way to express his observation and reflection of the society by increase the integrating steps with the mainstream media and beginning the way of internationalization. Since cultural industry has become inevitable, the independent documentary should make a strong growth on the premise of keeping the independent spiritual. In addition, the government,the mass media and some civil institutions should make a concerted effort to propel the Chinese independent documentary forward.
