The Study On Jingci Yanshi

Jingci Yanshi(《经词衍释》)written by Wu Chang-ying(吴昌瑩)in Qing Dynasty is an a piece of works which studied ancient Chinese function words systematically. It is an additional reasoning book for Jingzhuan Shici(《经传释词》), but there has been lack of attention to it that is deserves. Since that book has its special value, it is worthwhile to study it further.This dissertation tries to probe the value of Jingci Yanshi(《经词衍释》)from the angle of the study on ancient Chinese function words. And also tries to figure out the points which are not perfectly.The dissertation is composed of five parts:the Introduction, Chapter 1-3 and the Conclusion.In the Introduction, we make a brief introduction on Jingci Yanshi(《经词衍释》),its author Wu Chang-ying(吴昌瑩)and its editions. Then introduce the current research on a brief overview.In the Chapter 1, we will introduce the research foundation, exegetical method and exegesis terms in the book. In Chapter 2, we focus on the achievements and academic values of the book. Wu's book added many new meanings for Jingzhuan Shici(《经传释词》)and corrected many misunderstandings of the function words. In addition, Wu had made great achievements in deduction.In Chapter 3, we discuss the four aspects of the deficiencies and shortcomings of the book. The book in some respects has big flaws and shortcomings, like unreasonable on meanings division or misinterpretation. The existence of these shortcomings and deficiencies has both objective and subjective reasons.In Chapter 4, we make an assess of Jingci Yanshi (《经词衍释》) from its achievements and limitations. Wu's work had got great achievements. But it was the result of traditional exegesis. Because of that, it had some defects. To help to acquire the essence from the work, we try to comment it objectively.In the part of Conclusion, we summarize the results of our study on the book Jingci Yanshi(《经词衍释》).
