Abstract/Summary:
As the number of returnees in China has been rocketing these years, it's important to address issues of their reentry adaptation. However, studies conducted in this domain are still limited. This study investigates reentry adaptation levels, and its relationship with personality traits and thinking styles. This study assesses reentry shock and life satisfaction of 79 Chinese returnees as well as variables of personality traits and thinking styles by self-reported questionnaire. The result demonstrates that:(1) the ratings of participants'reentry adaptation are above median, (2) there are negative correlations between reentry shock and life satisfaction.Research on influential factors reveals that:(1) gender, cultural distance and time since return have no significant effect on reentry adaptation, (2) age has significant positive effect on life satisfaction, and (3) length of intercultural sojourn has significant positive effect on reentry shock. The finding of multiple regression and path analysis indicates that:(1) Relation in thinking styles is negative indicator of reentry shock, (2) Change in thinking styles is positive indicator of reentry shock, (3) Emotional Stability in personality traits is positive indicator of life satisfaction, and (4) Flexibility in personality traits is negative indicator of life satisfaction.
