In order to develop students' communicative ability, communicative approach has been used in Chinese language teaching in KOREA. Cultivating communicative ability has long been the central focus of second language teaching in Korea. Recently, a task-based approach that focuses on overcoming environmental constraints and enhancing communicative ability has been gaining popularity and playing a role in Chinese language teaching in KOREA.Accuracy in language use has been overlooked with the focus on fluency by developing communicative ability contributes to a higher degree. Is grammar teaching compatible with communicative ability? This paper starts with an introduction to task-based teaching methods and elaborates how to use task-based language teaching methods in grammar teaching. More specifically, this paper addresses how to devise communicative tasks on the basis of teaching materials, thereby enabling Korean students to learn by going through interactive themes and communicative tasks. By this method, students learn to solve real-life problems in Chinese and enhance their overall language proficiency. This paper includes a literature review of task-based approach and grammar teaching, and puts forth the author's conception based on grammar teaching realities. In the end, based on an analysis of Chinese grammar teaching methods, a simple and pragmatic instructive manual on task-based teaching is proposed, which hopefully would enhance the effectiveness of Chinese language teaching in Korean senior high schools.
