An ERP Research On Undergrduates' Lying With Money As Stimulus

Some researches gradually use the ERP technology in lie detection because of its popularity and the successful results that we can trust this technology.But now, most researches in the labconcentrate on using different stimulus to detect lies for the purpose of recognizing a commit.They didn't realize to study what is going on in their mind when people lie.Besides,there are disputes about the intension of stimulus and the modes choosen to show these stimulus.Most importantly,before an experiment,subjects are told to lie appointed kind of stimulus,thus,subjects may not show their true motivation of lying and we cannot get the exact electroencephalogram.In this study,we adopts the temptation of money as a direct stimulus, using the method of forcing attention to comparise ERP results on lying with different intensity stimulate content using double stimulation mode and three stimulation mode. Exploring more practical value on lying for money,i.e.under the conditions of different rewards, how and why the numbers of people choosing to lie or keeping honest change? And the inherent mental processing mechanism on characteristics of behavior change,etc.The study is divided into three parts:In study l,we use a questionnaire to survey the psychological effectsand the feasibility of different kinds of money as rewards.In study 2,we mainly discusses numbers of college students that choose to lie or tell truth facing the temptation of money,and their psychological characteristics.plus we try to filtrate attributions and distinguish high and low affecting stimulates. Study 3 is a within subjects design,subjects are taken from the liars in study 2,comprehensively investigateing matching degree with the high and low affecting currency and patterns of double and three stimulates, and recording the ERP to investigate the psychological processing mechanism of changes of honesty and deception. Exploring the neural mechanism of this psychological phenomenon, and to provide an experimental data support for revealing what the cognitive process of lying is.We got the following conclusions from this study:(1)In the situation of completely no external monitoring circumstances, more than half part of subjects choose to lie for money,but there are no significant differences between the numbers of lying people and honesty ones.(2)There are no significant differences between groups with the different initial number and distribution of gender.(3) The numbers of lying people isnot rising with different currency pays.(4) Facing the given money,people choose to lie from 5 yuan to the max,and mostly concentrated on 5 and 8 yuan.(5)In both of modes,the ERPs datas show that lie and truth EEG have the same curve traits,so the processing of lying is the same as that of telling truth. on psychological processing.Making a lie response can waken much bigger cognitive conflict and working memory load than true response in prefronal cortex,anterior central convolution,parietalis cortex and parts of temporalis gyri.Deception has elicited significantly larger N2 and P3 compared with truth.(6)The probe's P3 wave is large than the nonprobe's in both stimulation patterns, P3 wave is higher when lower affecting stimulation is with double stimulation patterns.while three stimulation patterns have nothing with high affecting stimulation.
