With the coming of modern society, modernity has been widely and heatedly discussed. OF modernity, as well as Marx's theory of modernity there are different interpretations. This paper argues that Marx's theory is in essence a theory critical of modern society. It is in the process of criticizing the "modern society" that Marx created Historical Materialism, based on which he created the theory of modernity. According to Marx's theory, historical forms of human society can be divided into three stages, based on which the author thinks that the materialized relationship is the core of Marx's theory of the modernity. This paper further describes Marx's analysis of and criticism on the modern society in view of the materialized relationship, thus further demonstrates that the materialized relationship is the basic characteristic and feature of modern society. At the same time, the author also believes that in the development of China's modernization, despite its specific social and historical background and social conditions, Contemporary China has common features of modern society as well; therefore, the materialized relationship is still the basic category. Finally the paper argues that "people-oriented" policy is the way to promote China's modernization and is the basic values and fundamental policy which should always be adhered to. |
