Liu Zhiping is a famous music educationalist, composer and music theorist in modern china. As a music educationalist, Liu Zhiping has engaged in the construction of China's professional and normal music education positively in the early 1918th when he returned to the homeland for only three days. During these years, he has participated in originating many artistic normal Colleges such as Shanghai Junior Normal College, Shanghai Art Junior Music Department, Xinhua Art Junior College and so on. When he taught in Shanghai Art Junior College, he was honored as the founder of its department because of his boldly suggestion that it should originate music department in this school. During the war of resistance against Japan, Liu Zhiping evacuated to the center of Zhejiang province, although being in the difficult situation, he still stuck to the first line of music education and had taught in Jinhua Normal School, Wenzhou Normal School, Fujian National Music Academy and did great contributions for training senior school teachers. After the foundation of People's Republic of China, Liu Zhiping was invited as a professor and director for Shan Dong Normal University. With the experience that he had before, he positively put forward many suggestions and thoughts to the leadership and had brought great influence for the Shandong normal music education again. As a composer, he had composed great many compositions, for example, there were almost three hundred songs in the kai ming singing book and short song accompaniment set only, great many songs not only trained students'understanding of beauty but also raised their music-reading ability and sing level effectively. As a music theorist, Liu Zhiping had published and wrote many insightful articles and books. In the article of the shortcomings of our nation's musical teaching, Liu Zhiping objectively attributed the shortcomings of our school education to'irrational singing books'and'irrational teaching method'two sides and proposed lots of suggestions for the development of our school music education. Besides, because Liu Zhiping's teaching range had involved in all the aspects of senior and normal music education. As a result, he was invited as one of the experts to draft including elementary, middle and high school, simple normal, normal school and junior college's music education syllabus, which fully showed that Liu Zhiping's important status and influence in the area of music education at that time.In addition to the introduction and conclusion, this thesis is composed of four chapters. The first chapter gives a brief introduction of Liu Zhiping's life. The second chapter focuses on the analysis of Liu Zhiping's music education activities. In order to adhere his teacher's ideal, Liu Zhiping almost threw all of his time and energy into the construction of China's music education, his footprint can throughout the country of the north and south, his education activity has influenced people from generation to generation, so this chapter will focus on studying the place of Shanghai, Zhejiang and Shandong where he had stayed for a long time and made great influence. The third chapter mainly concerns on the textual analysis of Liu Zhiping's musical teachings. Although Liu Zhiping's music creations were abundant both in the number and content, almost all the works were composed for dealing with the inappropriate materials for the students, so because of the affect of its user, most of the works were all compiled into books and were all simple in the structure. So the books such as the short song accompaniment set, piano playing textbook, kai ming singing book and so on were all compiled in such premise. Besides, owning that the qing liang set was created for the shortage of school sing books, and it was finished with many times practice from Shanghai Xinhua art college and Zhejiang Ningbo middle school and so on, so this thesis will put this work into the area of study. The forth chapter focuses on Liu Zhiping's music education thoughts, the music activities of Liu Zhiping whole life contains abundant music education thoughts, and which are the reflect of his thoughts, so summarize Liu Zhiping's music education thoughts is meaningful and helpful in analyzing his music education contributions.
