Since the beginning of the mid 1960s, Zhang Xiaofeng has been enlisted among top 10 prosers in Taiwan, who has a forty-year history of expericnce in the prose creation and also enjoys the title of"evergreen tree"in the current Chinese literature. She sincerely believes in Christina and is keen in the ancient Chinese cuture, who spiritually shines the universe with a female aesthetic and kind heart and artfully forges the tradition with contemporary thoughts to work out a large number of fresh and graceful proses. Zhang Xiaofeng's proses are highly in their artistic taste, but suit both refined and popular appetites. The prose collections, such as The Other End of Carpet, After Stepping Down The Red Carpet, Stone Worrying About Hometown, We Are, From Your Beautiful River, You Have Never Loved, Your Profile Is So Beautiful, The Temperature of This Cup of Tea is Just Right and The Stars Are All Here have significant influence along the both sides of the Taiwan Straits. Zhang Xiaofeng has made contributions to the development of current Chinese literature with her steady and consistent attitudes towards the literary creation and abundant achievements.Preface First, briefly introduce the creation of Zhang Xiaofeng's proses, followed by an analysis on her representative theses to point out the shortcomings in her research in order to bring forward the my research approaches and writing hypotheses.Chapter One Adherence to and Surpass over Bingxin Style This chapter adopts a comparative method to analyze the similarities and differences between the Zhang Xiaofeng's proses and those of Bingxin to embody the suceession and development of May 4th proses. It is divided into three sections. The first is devoted to the development history of current proses to trace back upon the historic source of Zhang Xiaofeng's proses. The second systematically probes into the succession of Zhang Xiaofeng's proses to those of Bingxin Style among the May 4th ones, which points out that her proses are continuously connect with the Christinian sprit of Bingxin with the emphasis on the nature and kinship. The third analyzes the surpass of Zhang Xiaofeng's proses over those of Bingxin Style, with their subject on the ecoloy, feminity, education and other social problems in the current circumstances of close relationships. In addition, the style is polarized, with one more exquisite, implicit, philosophic and intangible than Bingxin Style and the other more bold and unconstrained.Chapter Two Wake-up and Melting of"Tradition"This chapter will extend the thoughts to continuously retrospect the relationship between Zhang Xiaofeng's proses and the traditional culture. Zhang Xiaofeng's proses are significant in highlighting the tradition as an isolate object for appreciation as her proses bear strong classical beauty in the contemporaray atmosphere. This chapter is divided into two sections. The first is focused on the exploration and utilization of Zhang Xiaofeng's proses on the basis of the classical resources, which demonostrates her strong love the mother language, the transformative use of the classical Chinese, the contemporary intepretation of the ancient classics and also the cherishment for the cultural customs. The second reviews the tradition from a perspective of cultural development and points out the significance of this writing strategy.Chapter Three Trajection and Breakthrough in Style In this chapter, the research viewpoint returns to be contemporary with the increasingly obvious overlap of different writing styles as a trend. As a playwright, novelist and proser, Zhang Xiaofeng is flexible in different styles with the poetic and novelistic features in her proses. The first section probes into her poetic specialties in terms of endless diffusion and leap in thought and utlization of poesy images. The second studies the novelistic characteristics in her description of people, story and writing style.
