| Nan Zhao Paintings with Stories is the earliest painting materials left recording era of Nan Zhao State, which includes both paint volume and Characters volume and has importance on studying culture, history and religion of Nan Zhao. It is now kept in You Lin Pavalion in Kyoto Japan.Firstly, the preface makes itself a lead to the purpose, both overseas and domestic development tendency, together with the originate point of this research of Nan Zhao Paintings with Stories.This article studies Nan Zhao Paintings with Stories in four fields, using exemplification, method of comparison, method of induction.Number one, it is the first time that the author records the image in such details, accompanied by the statement according to the Origin of Wei Mountain, Record of Iron Pillar, Emperor Zhongxing Facing God and Record of West Er River.Number two, the author undertakes group research through the artistic image of the paintings. First, the author classified five groups of people according to social status and then starts a comparative research in the form of animal and setting, which refers to three major groups of human, flower & bird and mountain & river. The comparative study includes both same thing in the picture or same era paintings in the middle land of China. Second, analysis of constitutional factors of artistic image has been made through formation and contents of Nan Zhao Paintings with Stories.Number three, the author analyses the reason of formation of the artistic image of Nan Zhao Paintings with Stories from the perspective of social impacts, influence from Buddhism and function of artists. And evaluation of the artistic image of Nan Zhao Paintings with Stories has been made and analysis of aesthetic appreciation was done according to traditional standards. At last, a summary of the artistic image of Nan Zhao Paintings with Stories has been made with warning.
