The Image Of Tianjin In Chinese And Foreign Culture Shock

As a famous city, Tianjin doesn't carry a history as long as the other domestic ancient cities. However, from Tang dynasty Haihe River has been taking up the mission of material distribution from the south and the north. Tianjin is influenced by many foreign elements from all directions through the natural maritime and river ports; meanwhile, she also shows her own characteristics to the world. Therefore, historical and cultural space of Tianjin becomes a vehicle of contacting and communication for local culture and foreign culture. Furthermore, culture, religion, and social customs of Tianjin are also renewed continuously by incorporating and improving foreign elements. According to recorded history, Tianjin becomes a part of images of China from Ming dynasty, which is recorded by various peregrinators. Exotic image of Tianjin has a deep effect on the trend of the culture of Tianjin in conceptions and entities. Starting with the foreigners'impression on Tianjin, the article focus its attention on modern concessions,analyses the text discourse strategy of the foreigners'impression on Tianjin, and then further researches the cultural contacting, shock, and fusion between Tianjin local culture and western culture.The article discusses from three aspects. In Chapter One, the writer tries to describe the different images of Tianjin in Chinese and Western culture, distinguishes the difference in shaping the image of Tianjin between the west and the oriental, and then analyses the image of Tianjin, reflecting the watchers'cultural purpose "as a mirror for others",. In Chapter Two, the writer focus her attention on the exotic image of Tianjin existing in the form of text in concession period (emphasis on the west),and how to achieve the purpose of its own psychological expectation and cultural metaphor by the discourse strategy and emotional expression; In Chapter Three, the writer further researches the cultural mechanism in the concession period coming from the western image of Tianjin,to reveal the reflection of Tianjin local culture when the European and American culture penetrates slowly. The article shows Tianjin local culture how to incorporate, improve and resist the European and American culture from both matter and mind. The purpose of the whole article is that we should take appropriate measures to protect Tianjin. The measures should be based on respecting and protecting Tianjin urban culture.
