Backgroud:Facial neuritis is a common neurologic disease. At present the therapic methods always combine glucocorticoid, antiviral drug, vitamine B,improving blood circulation, acupuncture and physiotherapy and so on. Should the methods to treat facial neuritis with different degrees of injury be identical. There is no report today. So it is necessary to study it.Methods:72 patients with facial neuritis were divided into two groups on the basis of wave amplitude of injured side to normal side:≥30% group and <30% group. There were 56 patients in≥30% group and 16 patients in<30% group. The patients of two groups were randomly divided into 2 groups: medicine plus acupuncture treatment group (therapy group) and medicine treatment group(control group). The therapy group were given acupuncture from secondary week of the onset. According to House-Brackmann facial nerve grading system, the facial nerve function was recorded before treatment and after two months of treatment. Results:After two months of treatment, in the therapy group of≥ 30% group, there were 24 cases(85.71%)of complete recovery, 2 cases(7.14%)of excellence, 1 cases(3.57%)of valid success ,1 case(3.57%)of failure. In the control group of≥30% group, there were 20 cases(71.43%)of complete recovery, 4 cases(14.29%)of excellence, 2 case(7.14%)of valid success, 2 cases(7.14%)of failure. There was not significant difference between the therapy group and the control group. After two months of treatment, in the therapy group of<30%:there were 1 case(12.5%)of complete recovery, 6 cases(75%)of excellence, 1 case(12.5%)of valid success, 0 case(0)of failure. In control group of<30%: there were 0 case(0)of complete recovery, 1 cases(12.5%)of excellence, 5 case(62.5%)of valid success, 2 cases(25%)of failure. There was significant difference between the therapy group and the control group. Conclusion:The acupuncture treatment is ineffective for the facial neuritis with the ratio of wave amplitude≥30% and effective for the facial neuritis with the ratio of wave amplitude<30%.
