Purpose:To discuss the understandings of traditional Chinese medicine on diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN),with Tangbiqing Foot Balneum (for reinforcing Qi to promoting blood circulation). To observe the therapeutic efficacy of this method in treating the syndrome Qi deficiency and blood stasis of diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Methods:A randomized, controlled trial was conducted to 50 patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy with syndrome Qi deficiency and blood stasis classified into two groups. On the basis of normal treatment and western medicine, the patients of treated group (n=25) were treated by Chinese medicine Foot Balneum while the patients of controlled group (n=25) were not during treatment course of three months. The observed indexes included both curative effect indexes, such as clinic symptoms, blood plasma viscosity and EMG and safety indexes, such as routine urine, blood and stool test, ECG, the function of live and kidney and harmful reaction. The complete data experienced a statistics analysis through the SPSS17.0 statistics software. Results:There is no difference between two groups in prior treatment, gender, age, course of disease, but①The total effective rate of treated group was 88.00%; while the controlled group was 68.00%.The treated group had an advantage than the controlled group(P<0.05).②After treatment, the whole blood viscosity (highly cuts, middle cuts, lowly cuts) and the blood plasma viscosity of the treated group declined. The blood plasma viscosity of the controlled group declined. The decline between treated group and controlled group had a remarkable difference (P<0.05).③After treatment, bilateral peroneal motor nerve, sensory nerve conduction velocity, amplitude were improved significantly P<0.01or P<0.05); while for controlled group, the left peroneal sensory nerve, motor nerve and right peroneal motor nerve conduction velocity were improved significantly (P<0.05), the right peroneal sensory nerve, and motor nerve amplitude were improved significantly (P<0.05). Compared with the controlled group, the peroneal motor nerve, sensory nerve conduction velocity, and the common peroneal sensory nerve amplitude were better.(P<0.05).④there is no obvious difference in the blood glucose, the blood pressure, and HbA1c between two groups (P>0.05).⑤Compared with pre-treatment, there is no noted difference between two groups in TC,TG,LDL-C and HDL-C (P>0.05).⑥Safety:The hepatic and renal function of two groups remain normal without any adverse reaction. Conclusion:In reinforcing Qi to promote blood circulation. Chinese medicine has curative efficacy in treating the syndrome Qi deficiency and blood stasis of diabetic peripheral neuropathy. It is worth studying deeply and developing further.
