Objective:To compare the short term effect between laparoscopic-assisted distal gastrectomy and open distal gastrectomy for the gastric cancer. To investigate the feasibility, safety and cancer clearance of laparoscopic-assisted distal gastrectomy. Methods: Between June 2007 and Augest 2009, 62 patients of laparoscopic-assisted distal gastrectomy for the gastric cancer were operated in our department. The operative time, blood loss, postoperative recovery and operative complications of these 62 patients were compared with those 70 patitents of open distal gastrectomy for the gastric cancer in the same period in our hospital. Results:There was no statistically significant differences in age ad sex between laparoscopic-assisted surgery group and open surgery group. The mean operation time for laparoscopic-assisted surgery group was 263min and 238min for open surgery group(P=0.0537). But the blood loss, flatus time, ambulation time, the mean time of hospital stay and the operative complications rate were 166ml,3.6d,4.8,13.2d in laparoscopic-assisted surgery group and 205ml,4.1d,5.6d,16.7d in open surgery group(P<0.05). No significant differences between two group was observer for oncological clearance(P>0.05).Conclusion: Laparoscopic-assited gastrectomy is safe, feasible and minimally invasive, and it is with low blood loss, earlier return, shorter hospitalization days and provide better short term effect.
