Adjective To assess the arteriosclerosis by pulse wave velocity (PWV) for providing a reference for the diagnosis of pseudohypertension. Methods Thirty inpatients (male 17, female 13) with coronary angiography whose ages were between 55-85 years, were divided into two groups, one group was the pseudohypertension, the other was the comparison. All patients were measured the brachial artery blood pressure and the indirect blood pressure by the monitor three times simultaneously after coronary angiography.and calculate the systolic and diastolic blood pressure difference between direct and indirect.then the bilateral baPWV were measured using the atherosclerosis detector and to observe the factors such as ages, diseases, body mass index, blood lipid levels and so on.Results1. There were 3.5 factors average per patient among the common risk factors for hypertension such as age, body mass index, coronary heart diseases, diabetes, hyperlipidemia and smoking. Only one without factors, and 29 patients with two or more.2. There were no significant difference in age, heart rate, the proportion of smoking, coronary disease, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia between the two groups. But the pulse pressure, non-invasive blood pressure and the difference between non-invasive blood pressure and the direct were opposite (P mean<0.05). If there were no difference in the PWV references between the two groups, the PWV measurements of the pseudohypertension were significant distinct from the non-pseudohypertension(p=0.029).3. The baPWV was most sensitive(80.8%) and specific(73.3%) which was more than 1896.0cm/s through the ROC curve for prediction of pseudohypertension.4. Pearson correlation coefficient was 0.378 between the baPWV and the pseudohypertension by the Pearson correlative analysis, and the two had a medium relevance.Conclusions1. Most of the pseudohypertension patients were the eldly who had two more risk factors.2. The pulse pressure, non-invasive blood pressure, PWV and blood pressure difference of the pseudohypertension were high notablely than the non-pseudohypertension.3. Abnormal baPWV had a certain value for diagnosis of pseudohypertension.
