Objective To study the relation between the level of brachial-ankle pulse wavevelocity(baPWV) and coronary slow flow(CSF).Methods The study population included64patients with angiographically provennormal epicardial coronary arteries.Coronary flow patterns of the cases weredetermined by the Corrected Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction frame countmethod(cTFC).The cTFC was calculated separately for each coronary artery and theiraverage was determined as the mean cTFC for each subject.Patients whose averagecTFC greater than27were included in the CSF group(n=28) and the other wereincluded in the control group(n=36).Comparison of categorical and continuousvariables between the two groups was performed using unpaired t-test andChi-squre.Analysis evaluating predictors of CSF was performed using Logisticregression test. Results There were no statistical difference between the two groups concerning theage, gender, history of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, cigarette smoking, fastingplasma glucose, lipid levels and fibrinogen. However, the levels of baPWV andbaPWV%were significantly higher in the CSF group compared with the NCFgroup(1746.29±342.51VS1516.99±269.47cm/s, P=O.004;26.13±19.09VS12.29±19.23, P=0.006).The levels of baPWV and gender were prove to be the riskfactors of CSF by means of Logistic regression test(OR=8.396,9.688).Conclusions BaPWV elevated levels of CSF group, suggesting the presence ofcoronary atherosclerosis in CSF. Gender (male) and elevated baPWV is a risk factorfor CSF occurred, baPWV can be used to screen high-risk groups.
