Objective: To understand the current situation of intensive care and training needs in Xinjiang, explore the best ICU Specialist Nurse training path suitable in this region , provide a scientific basis for improving ICU Specialist Nurse training quality. Methods: The research includes three stages: (1) Basic investigation: The convenience sampling method was adopted, the investigation about intensive care facilities , human resources , training needs ,etc was carried out in 68 hospitals and developed training programs on this basis.(2) Implementation of training: divided randomly 92 students into control group and experimental group according to their order of register,in theoretical training stage, face to face teaching method was adopted in the control group, used a new type of two-way interactive synchronous distance teaching methods was adopted in the experimental group. In clinical practice training stage, the control group took method of one-to-one teaching method follow work schedule and the experimental group took method of"concentrated training- one-to-one responsibility teaching– weekly clinical pratice abilityexam". (3) Evaluation: We compared effectiveness and satisfaction of two kinds of theoretical teaching methods and clinical pratice teaching methods. Results: (1) The basic characters of two groups of students wer balanced and comparable (P>0.05). (2) Average ratio of intensive care unit disposition is 48.53%, in which the proportion of Urumqi and its surrounding areas is to 80.77%, over the past five years accounted for 72.72%. (3) Average bed-nurse ratio is 1:1.78 in ICU, the ratio of the primary and the following professional title accounted for 85.50%.The training ratio of pre-post and during work is 44.69% and 85.84%,,96.90% nurses think ICU SN training is necessary, the first training need is to expand the current knowledge extent.(4) There was no statistically significant difference of the pre- training and post-training theory performance between the two groups (P>0.05), The difference compared with themselves before and after training was statistically significant (P <0.01).These four factors, hospital grade, educational level, professional title, ICU work time are positively correlated with the theoretical performances. The satisfaction dgree of "Teacher-student interaction," "classroom atmosphere" in face-to-face teaching group was higher than the distance teaching group (P<0.01), the satisfaction degree of"convenience" and "timeliness"in the distance teaching group is higher than another group (P<0.01).5.)There was no statistically significant difference of cardio pulmonary resuscitation performance between the two groups (P>0.05),average score of three skill operations and clinical practice ability score of the experimental group were higher than the control group (P<0.01).There was no statistically significant difference of nurses, performance in three grade hospitals in Urumqi and its surrounding areas,of primary and above professional titles, with more than 2 years speciality work experience between the two groups (P>0.05), satisfaction degree of the experimental group was higher than the control group (p<0.05).Conclusion: 1) The integrated level of intensive care in Xinjiang region needs to be improved. 2) It is especially necessary and realistic to adopt two-way interactive synchronous distance teaching in Xinjiang. 3) Improved teaching method is good for cultivation of clinical practice abilitiy, is a better path for improving ICU Speciality Nurse training efficiency and quality.
