Objective:The aim of our study is to evaluate the oxidative stress in the pathogenesis of vitiligo by examining indicators of oxidative stress in serums, which including uperoxide of dismutase (SOD), catalase(CAT), glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px), malonaldehyde(MDA), VE(Vitamin E) and NO(nitric oxide)Materials and methods: Sixty patients with vitiligo and 40 healthy consenting volunteers were included in the study. Four milliliters of blood was taken from the cubital median vein of the patients and controls. The plasma were carefully separated from the blood. Plasma levels of superoxide of dismutase (SOD), catalase(CAT), glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px), malonaldehyde(MDA), VE and NO were determined by the method of chemical.Results:①Our results revealed a significantly higher level of plasma MDA and SOD and a lower level of GSH-Px in 60 patients with vitiligo compared with the controls (P<0.01).②Compared with the control, the MDA levels and SOD activities in plasma in the stable vitiligo group were significantly increased(P<0.01 ,P<0.01),whlile the GSH-Px activities in the stable vitiligo group were significantly decresed(P<0.01).③Compared with the control, the MDA,NOlevels and SOD activities in plasma in the active vitiligo group were significantly increased(P<0.01,P<0.05,P<0.01),whlile the GSH-Px activities,VE levels in the active vitiligo group were significantly decresed(P<0.01,P<0.05).④Plasma level of MDA and SOD were significantly higher in active vitiligo group than that of in stable vitiligo group (P<0.01,P<0.01), while plasma level of GSH-Px is significantly lower in active vitiligo group than that of in stable vitiligo group (P<0.01).⑤With the increase of the MDA,an linear decrease of activities about GSH-Px in plasma and an linear increase of acitivities about SOD in plasma(P<0.01,P<0.01).Conclusion: Our study shows that oxidative stress is involved in vitiligo, and that oxidative stress is associated with the activity of vitiligo.
