Objective: To evaluate the therapeutic effect of two kinds of steel plate combined with bone grafting for the treatment of nonunion ulnar shaft fracture, and provide ideas by retrospective analysis of the limited contact-dynamic compression plate (LC-DCP) and the locking compression plate (LCP) combined with bone grafting for treatment of nonunion ulnar shaft fracture cases. Methods:From January 2003 to October 2009,39 patients with nonunion ulnar shaft fracture were treated with LC-DCP and LCP combination of bone grafting in the Nanjing Military Region Fuzhou General Hospital Orthopedic Research Institute, among which 9 cases were lost 30 patients with follow-up, of them there were 26 males and 4 females with average of 36.56 years old (18 to 56 years old). The fractures were on the left side in 17 patients and on the right side in 13 patients. According to the surgical implantation of internal fixation are grouped,18 patients (18) were treated by limited contact-dynamic compression plate (LC-DCP group),and 12 patients (12) by the locking compression plate (LCP group). The average operative time, limb dysfunction, clinical healing time, X-ray bone callus generation situation, forearm efficacy score, complications, and other indicators were observed and recorded, assess the clinical of function in all patients before and after surgery, and use SPSS17.0 for statistical analysis. Results:The patients were followed up 6 to 20 months,(12 months on average).1. The average operative time LC-DCP group was 122.78±15.74 min (LC-DCP group), and 120.08±17.92min(LCP group), showing no significant difference between the two group(P>0.05); 2. The average clinical healing time of LC-DCP group was 3.572±0.747 months (LC-DCP group),and 3.367±0.756 months (LCP group), showing no significant difference(P>0.05); 3. The cases of limb rotation, callus score, forearm efficacy evaluation, complications of the LCP group and the LC-DCP group, were all showing no significant difference (P>0.05).4. The postoperative limb function of all patients was significantly improved compared with those of before surgery (P<0.05).Conclusion:1. The limited contact-dynamic compression plate (LC-DCP) and the locking compression plate (LCP) combined with bone grafting both can achieve satisfactory results in treating nonunion ulnar shaft fracture. Two groups showed no significant differences in surgery duration, functional recovery of forearm, clinical evaluation of forearm, and etc.2. LC-DCP and LCP in combination with bone grafting for the treatment of nonunion ulnar shaft fracture were the two effective ways.
