| Objective: The purpose of the study was to evaluate the better way between dynamic compression plate and AO external fixation, using in atrophic humeral shaft nonunion, at the same time, the atrophic humeral shaft nonunion can be applied to the two above-mentioned fixation ways. Methods: Between January 1998 and February 2007, 39 case of patients were treated and adopted two fixation ways for treatment of atrophic humeral shaft nonunion, were re-conducted and analyzed retrospectively, all of the above cases can be applied to the dynamic compression plate and AO external fixation, at the same time, the statistical analysis about time of hospitalization, surgery time, blood loss, bone healing time and bone healing rate after sugery were done. Results: The average time of hospitalization was (13.0±2.2)d, the average surgery time was (90.0±10.5)min, the average blood loss was (100.0±20.5)ml, the average bone healing time was ( 8.0±1.2)month, about dynamic compression plate group; The average time of hospitalization was (10.0±1.4)d, the average surgery time was (60.0±7.8)min, the average blood loss was (70.0±17.5)ml, the average bone healing time was (6.0±0.8)month, about AO external fixation group. the results of statistical analysis about time of hospitalization, surgery time, blood loss, and bone healing time after sugery were accomplished, P<0.05, The healing rate of dynamic compression plate group and AO external fixation group were 71.4% and 96.0%, the results of statistical analysis about bone healing rate after sugery were accomplished, P<0.05, AO external fixation was advantage to dynamic compression plate when the patients can be applied to the two above-mentioned fixation ways. Conclusion: AO external fixation was advantage to dynamic compression plate when the patients of atrophic humeral shaft nonunion can be applied to the two fixation ways, the two fixation ways were dynamic compression plate and AO external fixation. |
