Objective:To investigate the expression of transcription factor Aiolos in peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMCs) from patients with systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE), and to explore their clinical significance. Methods:The patients were separated into active group(n=19)and stable group (n=13) according to the SLE disease activity index(SLEDAI).The protein expression of transcription factor Aiolos were measured by Western-blotting in PBMCs from the patients and 30 healthy volunteers. The relationship between the expression of transcription factor Aiolos and SLEDAI was analyzed. Results:There was lower expression of transcription Aiolos in the SLE patients. The relative value of Aiolos in both SLE groups compared with that of normal control group shown statistical significance(0.56±0.17vs 0.81±0.09,t=7.48, P<0.01) and in active SLE group were lower than that in stable SLE group(0.52±0.14vs0.65±0.19, t=2.95, P<0.05). Inaddition, the expression levels of protein were negatively correlated with SLEDAI in patients(r=-0.65,P<0.01). Conclusions:These findings indicate that transcription factor Aiolos might be involved in the pathogenesis of SLE. Also, Aiolos expression level might be a new parameter for the evaluation of SLE disease activity and therapeutic effect.
