Objective TRPV5 is a high calcium ion selective subtype of transient receptor potential channels(TRP channels) expressed predominantly in distal convoluted tubules and collecting tubules of kidney and plays a determinative role in calcium reabsorption and calcium homeostasis, but evidence suggests that it is also involved in carcinogenesis. To elucidate its role in hepatocarcinogenesis, we analyzed the expression of TRPV5 in tumour tissues of human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) samples. Methods Tissue samples and clinical data were obtained from 55 patients with Primary Hepatocellular Carcinoma(HCC) who underwent hepatectomy between 2006 and 2009 at the Department of Surgery, the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University. The expression of TRPV5 were assessed by immunohistochemistry in the study. Furthermore, the correlations between expression of TRPV5 and clinicopathological parameters including the tumor cell differentiation, tumor size and number, portal vein tumor embolus, were analyzed.Result:Immunohistochemist studies showed that high expression of TRPV5 was observed in 29(52.7%) tumor tissues samples of 55 HCC, while 26 (47.3%)cases were lowly expressed. Clinicopathological evaluation indicated a significant correlation between TRPV5 expression and a clinicopathological parameter histopathological differentiation (p=0.001).Conclusions Our results indicate that TRPV5 may play roles in hepatocarcinogenesis.
